If one chooses to use such a robe in a cavalier way by wearing it to bed, thus risking RUINING it, that is certainly her prerogative. But I personally would never do that. I imagine it is more likely that what she calls her fancy Shabbos nightgown, is really not what I would call a Shabbos robe.
And yes, I think it is really nice to wear a special nightgown for Shabbos also.
