Is it wrong to pursue a widespread fallacy in the hope of replacing it with rationality?

(If you must know what finally made me snap, it was when a friend of mine refused to speak at a simcha and a third friend pressured him to, garbling madness about ‘you have to learn how to speak.’ He ultimately succumbed to the pressure.)
