I think with the hard lenses if you keep them in too long, you can scratch your cornea. I remember reading the story of the woman who thought her contacts were still in so she kept scratching. It turned out what she was feeling was her cornea and she kept scratching it and felt it more and more. I wonder how long that took to heal.
