How about:
The treasurer brought a poison. The pharmacist brought water (or other non-toxic solution) and drank an extremely weak poison before the meeting. When they switched after drinking their own,the treasurer drank water which could not counteract the poison he brought but the pharmacist had drunk the weak poison which counteracted the one he had taken beforehand.
