Is the problem really the college education, or the ‘college experience?’ There are (at least) two ways to make it work – the Jewish colleges – YU, Stern, Touro, or night classes. I took night classes at a community college several years ago. The student mix there were not a very high class group, but they generally were several years older, held down a daytime job, and took the college very seriously. None of that fun and games stuff going on there. If a full-time daytime program looks like the way to go, our community is large enough and diverse enough that you should be able to find someone who has been there and can tell you what to expect.
