Not simple at all. As I posted in the KosherSwitch thread, some very big poskim (R’ Chaim Ozer, Chazon Ish, R’ Moshe Feinstein R’ Elyashiv) hold that a using a device which was designed for the purpose of performing a melachah is considered a direct act.
I believe this is why R’ Belsky wrote that using the KosherSwitch would be an issur d’Oraisa.
