I went to the simchas bais hashoeiva in stolin, boro park. FFor those unfamiliar with the proceedings there, they have one big “circle” (for lack of a better word–I guess ‘polygon’ would be more accurate) that snakes around the entire shul. [It’s very nice. People from all walks of life all dancing and holding hands and…whatever, it’s nice.]
I was there with a relative of mine named Aharon and I hereby publicly thank him for his vigilance in maintaining the proper snake. Because it inevitably gets messed up when you have to go backwards around a bend because you could easily lose the beat, plus, if people leave, you sometimes can’t figure out where you’re supposed to continue. But he, with a professional and talented air, guided me (and others), pointing out the way, even suggesting his own innovative spreading out or an extra twist when it got to dense, and he always kept the rhythm. He wasn’t one of those annoying people always trying to do something different or chiding others. He just kept an eye out for his surroundings and has that talent necessary to make it work, and I thank you, Aharon (I’ll make sure you read this), for your help and I could only say that if there were more people like you, the world would undoubtedly be a better place.
