My assessment of the responses to my question:

Several people agreed with me. Several people took this as an opportunity to get in another pointless (as per my first post) ideological debate. Nobody answered the question except for the one suggestion about kiddushin, which in fact doesn’t answer the question; it simply points out a potential halachic nafka minah of whether the State is the beginning of the redemption.
