Trump is an transnational businessman whose parnasssah would be seriously hurt if there were trade restrictions. His protections may be part of his media “persona”. Of course, all of Trump’s positions seem to be part of a media image. For good or ill, one shouldn’t attach much faith (dispair) to Trump’s positions on specific issues since he’s running on a platform of “I’m angry and plan to do something about it”, with the “it” being left open. Certainly based on his overall stances on issues, he’s a “Rockefeller” Republican with some neo-isolationism thrown in.
