I created an account just to respond to this thread, which was sent to me by a relative. The OP is coming at this from the perspective of someone born and raised in a frum community.
Having been born and raised on shlichus in a relatively isolated place, and now living in a frum metro community, I can tell you with 100% assurance that my personal yiddishkeit was stronger and less cynical before I started living exclusively among frum people.
