Insurance companies are in business to make money, and they use actuaries – specialized mathematicians – to figure out how much to charge in what circumstances in order to make a profit. Their premiums are based on how much money they have to pay out in claims for a particular demographic. So if men are charged more for insurance it’s because men – especially 15-30 – cost the company more in claims than other groups. So either they’re having more accidents or the ones they’re having cost more. It’s plain old capitalist logic.
