In Tenafly – cops took away a car for Non-registration. The Commish ended up resigning.
But the story should have been that the law is absurd or even a violation of Civil Rights!

“And then O’Scanlon took the registration question one step further.
“Why do we even have yearly registration? There’s no need for that,” he said. “It should be good until your car is sold. The car is registered, the state knows you own it, why are we forcing people to go through this unnecessary paperwork exercise every year?”
When I answered this obviously rhetorical question — “money” — O’Scanlon nearly jumped through the phone.
“We shouldn’t have any rules or regulations put in place simply so we can charge people,” he said. “That’s government working directly against the people it’s supposed to be serving. Not acceptable.””
