Avi K: A 19 year old with a clean record was charged with attempted kidnapping. His family was without means. His original bail was $100,000 and at that point had not missed any of his court appearances (one of the reasons for bail in the first place). The prosecutor asked for the bail to remain at the $100,000 and the judge upped it to $1,000,000.
BTW, Supreme Court in NYS is Criminal Court.
The original charges had a hate crime and it was dropped. Please don’t tell me a person with 8 prior arrests should be treated leniently even if only charged with misdemeanors for his current arrest.
