Sometimes we need an intermediary as a conduit for the acceptance of our tefilos, so we choose someone great and holy to intercede in our behalf. We daven in a tzibur to be accepted as part of a tzibur led by a holy person, otherwise, our teflos might not reach Hashem but stolen by outside sources as stated before.
