“If the husband tries to claim that his wife stole the money from him, I doubt they will be married much longer.”

Interjection: The husband can be mochel her and not wish to (or even agree to if she wanted to) divorce her. She may have made an error in judgement and not realized in advance that her husband objects to spending his money on whatever it was.
