I heard that it comprises two greek deltas signifying the army of David. There is a big difference between a tzelem and magen david. A tzelem only has extremes. The catholics only go by extremes like celibacy. Therefore, goyim can only bring an aloh which is burned completely whereas we bring a shelamim where we make peace with Hashem by eating it lashem shomayim. A magen david contains no extremes but midpoints.
