Smerel’s perspective is fascinating to me. The MO community always seemed to me on the wrong side of Zionism and a host of other issues, especially communal ones having to do with preservation of mesora, Yiddish language, and the prioritization of limud hatorah over professional pursuits. The one thing I am sure they were right about is the Slifkin issue.
