According to slavery expert Siddharth Kara, out of 28.4 million slaves today (out of a world population of 7.674 billion – .37%) 18.1 million are actually indentured servants. According to the Encyclopædia Britannica, slavery was practiced in every ancient civilization and slaves sometimes accounted for a very large percentage of the population.
