The archaeologists found an old synagogue from the thirteen hundreds indicating that Jews lived in Sopron a long time. In 1526 when the Turks took over part of Hungary, the Jews were chased out and they screamed that they have lived there for over 500 years going back to the time of the geonim.
So there was a big kehila there before WWII. The Soproner Rav, Rav Shimon Posen ztz’l was a great talmid chacham. The reason we left at the revolution because there was no yiddishkeit as everyone else left.
