There is a differing view between the Torah and science whether the woman or the man determines gender. The Torah says that it is the woman whereas science says it is the man. Science says that the woman has two x chromosomes and the man has an x and y chromosomes. The man can either give an x or a y but the woman can only give an x. If the man gives an x, it is female or a y a male. Maybe, the woman creates the environment determining what the man gives. So it is still the woman who determines gender.
