In solemn tones we gather here today,
To honor a soul who’s passed away,
With heavy hearts and tearful eyes,
We bid farewell to one so wise.
The Mattersdorfer Rav, a guiding light,
A beacon of knowledge shining bright,
Hagaon HaRav Simcha Bunim, we mourn,
Whose teachings and wisdom we’ve all borne.
A member of Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah,
A pillar of faith, revered evermore,
In America, he held a lofty seat,
Agudas Yisroel, his wisdom sweet.
Rosh Yeshivah of Chasan Sofer’s fame,
In Boro Park, his teachings aflame,
With diligence and passion, he would impart,
The treasures of Torah, deep in each heart.
Son of Rav Shmuel, the previous Rav,
A legacy of leadership he bravely grabbed,
Yeshivas Chasan Sofer, his father’s dream,
In Brooklyn, a place where Torah would gleam.
Kiryat Mattersdorf, a neighborhood fair,
In Jerusalem, his vision he’d share,
He carried the lineage of Chasam Sofer’s grace,
A great-great-great-grandson, a noble embrace.
Brother to Rav Akiva, sisters dear,
Whose lives intertwined, their bond sincere,
Rav Shmuel Binyomin Fisher and Paler too,
Rav Simcha Schustal, Cohen, and Kagan, all true.
Now the time has come to say goodbye,
As his soul takes flight, reaching the sky,
The levayah shall commence, a solemn hour,
At Yeshivas Chasan Sofer, our spirits dour.
In Boro Park, we gather, hearts entwined,
To honor this Rav, deeply enshrined,
But his journey doesn’t end on these shores,
To Eretz Yisroel, his soul now soars.
Boruch Dayan HaEmmes, we humbly say,
Accept our prayers as we bow and pray,
May Rav Simcha Bunim find eternal rest,
Amongst the righteous, divinely blessed.
His teachings and legacy shall forever shine,
In hearts and minds, his wisdom enshrined,
Though he may have left this earthly plane,
His spirit lives on, forever to sustain.
