When the Talmud and Shulchan Aruch were written,
people did not know the dangers of eating foods
that contain large amounts of:
sugar, salt, cholesterol, mercury, fat, and saturated fat.
Now we know the dangers of eating those things,
but our hashgachah system does not reflect that
new knowledge.
Torah requires all Jews to avoid needless dangers,
and eating foods with unhealthy ingredients
is probably a needless danger.
