Jewish access to the Kotel was severely restricted,
compared to what Jews enjoy now.
For example: Any Jew who blew the shofar at the Kotel
was quickly arrested and imprisoned by the British.
Under the rule of the Turkish Ottoman Empire,
Jews had to pay money for access to a small part of the Kotel.
