Teen, you are right that healthy debate can be a good thing. Unfortunately there has been a great deal of acrimony posted here in the guise of “healthy debate.” It isn’t very healthy, and it is often diatribe, not debate. There are arguments and there are ARGUMENTS. When someone tells someone else that he or she is stupid or ignorant or any of a number of similar words, or worse, that the person is full of kefirah – that has passed the healthy debate stage and is really offensive. Attacks such as some that we have seen in the past certainly show that person up for not knowing how to be mekayeim mitzvos bein odom l’chaveiro, though they are very sure they are excellent at bein odom l’Mokom. There has been some improvement as some people came to realize how they were coming off to others. I doubt that anyone who posts here intentionally wants to cause onaas devarim to another Jew, but it certainly has happened on occasion. If they were kidding, they need to get a new sense of humor. State your beleifs all you want, I think it’s fantastic, and we learn a lot from each other this way. But no one should attack when they disagree. Just sayin’…
