Rabbi Yehuda Levin once ran on a third party ticket for Mayor. (I voted for him against Koch as a protest against crime; I wanted to write in Bernhard Hugo Goetz but did not want to be bothered with a write-in vote).
Basically, he is a very vocal askan who spends most of his time protesting societal decay such as toeva rights. He shows up at various events with very bluntly worded placards. Whether he is effective or not is a good question.
