Before we had pizza in Russia, we used to take a flat Georgian bread and put sauce, cheese etc on it. Wasn’t bad but the breads really were too thick for that.
If anyone is in Boro Park, it would be interesting to try that with the flat Bukharan breads they sell fresh on one of the side streets (I think in the 50’s somewhere between 13th and 14th but it has been 2 years so I am not sure). You can get those breads in Queens as well but I am not sure which bakeries there have reliable kashrus – the one in BP is under one of the reliable hashgochos.
