Aleph yud paper is a euphemism which refers to the correct purpose to which Maariv, Yediot and Ha’aretz should be put. However, such usage is ossur on Shabbos due to the presence of writing on those three wastes of newsprint, so that coffee filters are a good and halachically acceptable substitute.
