It is from what is known in the medical community as an “inferiority complex.” They suffer from a condition that impels them to malign anyone, and any thought, that brings to a negative light the actions they live. Should they ever sense someone other than themselves behaving in a manner more consistent with certain societal norms, in this case Torah norms, they will immediately and impulsively respond with a barrage of negativity and criticism intended to boost their low self-esteem by, what they think, knocks down the good deeds of others that they feel threatened by.
