The swine flu was an epidemic, until we saw it in other countries as well (as people travel from here to there, they carry the germs with them). A pandemic is really scary, because it is harder to contain. In general the health situation has been teribble all winter and into late spring. This was the worst winter I have ever had, health-wise, and I hear it more and more from others.
