Yuck! Personally, I do not enjoy the smell of most alcoholic beverages and I do not enjoy the taste of most alcoholic beverages. Can someone really say that bourbon tastes good? I think men do it to feel “high” and “be manly”. (Whatever that is!)
That being said, IMHO, I think that there is nothing wrong with drinking a l’chaim on Simchas Torah (or on any Shabbos for that matter), as long as it is limited. (Again, my opinion: one or two drinks.) If you know that you can not limit yourself, then you should not drink it at all!
