bombmaniac – i’m not sure how you could answer this question without knowing the situation. maybe he needs a phone because his yeshiva is not in a safe neighborhood and might need to call (or a dozen other reasons). I personally use texting to make arrangements for a ride home – texting is the easiest and least time consuming way to do that. you should never give blanket answers before knowing the details.
