Here’s my two cents: Parents are older and wiser and should be relied upon for advice and guidance. But at the end of the day, it is the child who is getting married and therefore the child’s decision to make. Also, although every parent loves and wants the best for their child, they are not objective and can have judgment that is just as skewed as that of an infatuated youth. There is a reason why halacha does not obligate a child to marry the parents’ choice.
