I think APs are given in the spring, to correspond with the time students complete the coursework. You do not need to take the course in order to take the test; you can study the material on your own instead. When I took APs, they were graded on a scale of 1 to 5 and most colleges accepted a 4 or 5. For subjects such as history or English, it’s not too difficult to study the material on your own & get a 4 or 5, but I wouldn’t recommend it for a subject such as calculus.
