It’s not misguided focus for someone to be attracted physically to the person whom they are dating. Hashem gave us that feeling for a reason. But you are right that we should focus on OTHER attributes, such as middos, personality, intelligence, thoughtfulness, etc., though looks DO play a part (and are extremely subjective).
