EloQuint5 put it best. It is a classic case of gaivah. If I were the Rav, I would seriously think of raising a theoretical question during the speech and putting it out to the oilam, specifically asking the “nose in the sefer” to offer his opinion. The nose needn’t be embarrassed, it’s a kovod to have the Rav ask your opinion. That should put a stop to this inexcusable behavior.
