Unfortunately many of these get togethers deteriorate into the unltimate game of oneupmanship. If I bought a house for a million dollars, then X bought one for two. If my child was accepted into a prestigious school, then yours was accepted to the best medical school in the world – on a full scholarship. For some reason, it seems to be human nature to try and outdo others. So many people tend to speak before they think, with little thought of the implications on others. I have no solution to this ever present problem other than trying to watch my own behaviour.
