Oh, c’mon Wolf. There must have been one experience you had that was head and shoulders above the rest. One tish, where you really got into the zemiros, or one mitzva tanz which brought tears to your eyes.

The answer to your question is no. I’ve never been to a tish or a mitzvah tantz. I sing z’miros in my home, but I assume that doesn’t count for the purposes of this discussion.

I have davened in chassidic shuls of various denominations, but none of them really impressed me over any other.

But even if the answer to your question was yes, so what? Is any branch of chassidus so shallow that it’s defined by the mitzvah tantz or tish? If I’m going to make a decision on which I feel most connected to, shouldn’t it be on the basis of something more than a tish or a mitzvah tantz? Shouldn’t it be based on their philosophy, their approach to yahadus or their feelings about what brings you closer to HKBH? Telling me that I should have a favorite chassidus simply because a chassidic zemer might have brought tears to my eyes is, IMHO, very shallow indeed.
