It is probably not a great idea to get compression stockings without checking yourself out with your doctor first. Self-diagnosis is not the best idea and using compression when it is not warranted will cause different problems. So you are probably correct that you need some support which might be appropriate in the support hose but the amount of the compression is what would be questionable.
