Y’know, what you wrote N.A.N.A. reminds me of a powerful vort. Rabbi Shimon Shwab says an absolutely amazing thing.
Why do we need to lein on Rosh Hashona the last shtikel in parshas VaYeira? We have enough pesukim with the story of Akeiidas Yitzchok to cover the required aliyos! Why read all the names of relatives of Avrohom? So Rash”i says it’s all just to mention Rivka. But what does that portion have to do with R”H?? What possible hisoirerus can we gain from these names?
He says, imagine you are given permission to be able to look in this year’s Sefer HaChaim! So you nervously flip through it, page after page, with shaking hands, your eyes frightfully scanning all the names, and muttering….c’mon where is it, where’s my name….??? Whew, you finally find it, you’re in the there. imagine the RELEIF, the sweat, the tension, your beating heart etc.
..and what if you weren’t in there, C”V,…….?
If you look at the pesukim, says R’Shwab, there’s one outstanding omission! There’s a name missing!?
Lavan’s name is not there! But he was Rivks’s brother?? Why isn’t he included in the family list? Says R’ Shwab, because he was a rasha! And therefore didn’t DESERVE his name to be included and mentioned (at that time) in the torah!
May we all be zoiche to be written in Sefer HaChayim L’Toiva!!
