I am leaning to believe that this is not true, as I was there for first seder and did not hear anything of the sort.

I would buy a Kindle in a heartbeat if it supported Hebrew text and I knew how to load seforim on to it. And while it would definitely take time, maybe a few years, I think many others would too.
