The Gra says that the 2 mitzvos that the Torah rewards with long life ???? ??????? ????, that of Honouring one’s parents????? ?? ??? and Sending away the mother bird ?????? ??? are connected.
The mitzvah of honouring one’s parents in their old age is likened to that of mercy even when it appears to be cruel, for example, by sending away the mother bird in order to take her children.
The Gra says that using these middos for the service of Hashem will bring one to TRUE service of Hashem; even to do mitzvos that “appear” to be cruel to the human mind.
