The Parsha speaks of the idea of getting a divorce, that it must be done with an official document (a Get)etc. Although this is in fact a MITZVAH it is nevertheless a mitzva which is reserved only in critical and unresoved cases, and is done out of necessity. When I learned Masechta Gittin, so right before I started to learn the mishna of “Hameivi Get Mimedinas Hayom”, my rebbi prefaced and noted a beautiful insight: “Hameivi Get”-when you will begin the mesechta of Gittin, and be introduced to the concept of bringing a Get, “Mimedinas Hayom”-you have to understand that it’s memidinas hayom, this is a foreign idea and a foreign concept, unlike all other mitvahs!!
I remember when I first got married I moved to Eretz Yisroel with my new Kalla, and happily set up our house. Finally, when the new zman began I went proudly to Kollel and learned until lunchtime, when I returned home to eat lunch with my wife. In the middle of the meal she asked me “so, what are you learning?”
“Mesechtas Gittin”, I answered.
She nearly choked…lol.. you should have seen her face of horror, LOL
“Can you maybe learn a different gemorrah” she asked politely
