I can confidently say that as with anything if someone is looking for trouble they can find it anywhere. ANY tool used the wrong way can do damage.
a) if you don’t know how to protect your online content (and block information you dont want strangers to see) you are at a big risk for anything you post on facebook.
b) there’s always been a problem with yichud on the internet and what it means. Facebook makes it even easier. So many time’s I got “poked” by a guy till I asked him who he is and what he wants… now I learnt to ignore them and block the person right away…
c) people aren’t so careful with who they add… they think so what my friends husband added me its not like we’re going to talk to each other… nice and easy way when ur both having a hard time in ur marriage to suddenly be online and say hi…. thats where major problems start.
My belief is what you do with it. The blocking of internet can prevent many things yes – but it doesn’t solve the problem, just like if you use facebook like i do to keep in touch with family and friends who are all over the world – and makes it alot easier for me to keep in touch and updated.
I think the issue the Rabbanim have with it is that its soooo easy and so accessible to do something wrong and make a mistake and all these things just make it easier. We always created a “fence” why is there muktzah? To make a fence around ourselves. So I think I’m starting to realize that thats what the Rabbanim are trying to do – is make a fence around the internet, because the Yetzer Hara is very tricky and he knows how to get us to do the wrong thing without us even realizing it.
