This guy WIY has it all wrong. He seems to come from some very “greasy” background at least from the way his posts read. No, many people in the yeshiva world do not follow his description. Many binei torah do not get an “over the top” where the barber mows the front with a 4 and the sides with a 3 or 2. Actually, getting a 4 on top and a 2 on the sides looks like a “step” something pretty unyeshivish. Some do the over the top thing, many get the front cut with scissors. WIY says that the front shouldn’t be longer than a 4 if you want to look like a ben torah. That is silly. A good barber can trim with scissors which suits benei torah fine. And there are many binei torah and talmedi chachamim that never sported peyos. You can get the ben torah look either way.

But the whole thing is overdone. What ever happened to the dictum in Avos, Do not stare at the barrel rather at what is in it?
