Everyone should follow their minhag and if there is any doubt, ask *their* rabbi. As for attempting to save a few dollars, I wonder if we all believe that our basic income was decided on Rosh Hashana and sealed on Yom Kippur, and does not include expenses for Shabbat or Yom Tov.
PS Since when iodized salt is KLP? Who said so? If you eat kitniyot or at least kitniyot derivatives, awesome, but not everyone does.
