Dear crisisoftheweek: Perhaps that is the Western legal view of the duties of a lawyer and the rights of a criminal, but that is not necessarily the view of the Torah. If a client admits to his lawyer his guilt, the lawyer may still go to court the next day and claim his client is innocent under “attorney/client privilige” laws. That is surely at odds with a Torah man’s obligation.
