The reason they send around wooden spoons is to remind us of a very little known Halocho, that just as metal can be Kashered thru Hag’olo, kikewise wood & marble can also be Kashered thru Hag’olo.
From a practical aspect, a wooden spoon is useless to pick up a crumb, a feather being more effective, if really bent on not utilizng one’s fingers.
