To your first point: Don’t be inane. He was still learning in yeshiva, he didn’t have a position, etc. It isn’t so weird that he didn’t have a beard, and would not be so weird if he were in the same position today and didn’t have a beard.

To your second point: Don’t be irrational. For purposes of our discussion, there is no difference between the two.
