I didn’t grow up eating Hersheys and Haagen Dazs. I still eat them. And I haven’t grown up yet ^_^
About the newspaper thing, I see this a lot on Shabbos morning with people trying to check sports scores (perhaps the news too though that doesn’t usually change much between Friday afternoon and Shabbos morning).
If they are looking at a Jewish paper than it is probably because they’re curious to see it but don’t buy it themselves.
If you are seeing this daily I would say that it is just regular curiosity to know what’s going on in the world. Goyim would do this too if they hadn’t read the paper yet. They read it first thing when they get up with their breakfast while Jews go straight to davening so don’t always have a “newspaper seder”.
