My husband doesn’t say it. He finds Kiddush Levanah to be problematic for similar reasons, but nevertheless, since it’s more mainstream to say Kiddush Levanah he says that but doesn’t say Machnisei Rachamim which is considered more controversial (I think; he’s sleeping so I can’t ask him now).
